Mark grew up in Southern California, moving to New York City in 1997 to attend the Fashion Institute of Technology. While there he studied project and display exhibition. Immediately after leaving FIT, he began pursuing his ultimate passion as a makeup artist. He quickly found a home with Shu Uemura where he was able to develop and define his personal style and approach, working as the principle makeup artist for the US. Mr. Uemura's philosophy that "beautiful makeup starts with beautiful skin" still continues to define the foundation of Mark's artistry. For nearly five years with Shu Uemura he was granted the opportunity to travel the country teaching Mr. Uemura's philosophy and approach to makeup, demonstrating Japanese makeup techniques to other artist, and promoting the brand to clients and the industry. During Mark's tenure he had the tremendous responsibility of acting as Lead Artist for Shu Uemura's countless sponsored shows at New York's Mercedes-Benz Fashion Weeks, as well as collaborating with top artists, including Tom Pecheux, Charlotte Tilbury and Stephen Marais.
After five years with Shu Uemura, Mark left to develop his craft further assisting industry icons including Lucia Peroni and Val Garland, working on campaigns for Gucci, Valentino, Balmain and MAC, and editorials for V, V-Man, W and American Vogue. He soon found a mentor and friend in makeup artist Rie Omoto, who catalyzed his personal growth as an artist, and helped him to define the platform from which he currently works, fusing the traditional with the experimental, natural beauty with high concept, and the classics with the avante-garde.
